ENGLISH:
Phytolaema mutabilis is a very
pretty golden scarab that lives in the central and southern
parts of Chile. Unfortunately the golden colour fades away
very fast after death although if kept in ethyl alcohol they
may retain some of it. There are several species in the
genus but this one shown on my hand is that most attractive
one. Some springs many specimens fly attracted by the night
collecting lights. They live between Curico and Osorno.
ESPAÑOL:
Este bellísimo escarabajo dorado es muy comun en el
Sur de Chile. Por desgracia luego de unos dias el color
dorado muta a un color blanquecino, por eso es que se llama
"mutabilis". Hay varias especies en este género, pero
la mas espectacular es esta. Es muy común y llega a
la luz blanca de las casas de campo en verano.
