Philorea aracniformis

(Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae)

ENGLISH: Philorea is a genus of Tenebrionidae living between Peru and Chile, many on these species are rare in the collections as found in places where access is a problem. I have found some species near Visviri Volcano at 5400 mts in that corner where Chile meets Peru and Bolivia and at the coastal edge of the Atacama desert. I am describing at present four species previously unknown. This specimen on my hand was collected by the Chilean Anthropologist Dr Horacio Larrain near Iquique who has contributed tremendously to the knowledge of Northern beetles.
