ENGLISH:
Phaleria gayi is surprisingly
common. Even in the most popular beach resorts can be
collected. It is a nocturnal Tenebrionid that lives under
algae in the intertidal sandy beaches. The larvae is small
and have transversal strips such as those from Alcatraz
T-shirts. It used to be a confusion about this species, but
a recent work from our friend Dr Triplehorn, an Ohio
Tenebrionidologist, solved the puzzle. The photo below shows
the exact habitat. It is found over most of the Chilean
Pacific Coast. ESPAÑOL:
Este tenebriónido es sorpresivamente común.
Vive en las zonas arenosas intermareales, bajo algas, a lo
largo de Chile. Es nocturno y su larva tiene franjas
transversales que recuerdan a las vestimentas de los presos
de alcatraz. Existía una confusión respecto de
esta especie y otras, lo que fue resuelto sin dudas por
nuestro amigo Coleopterólogo de Ohio, Dr Ch
