Astylus trifasciatus

(Coleoptera, Melyridae)

ENGLISH: Astylus trifasciatus : This species is the commonest beetle in Santiago city. Chiledren collect them and call them "Pololo de las Flores". There is a species from the Central South region. They are attracted to many kinds of flowers and become yellow with pollen from them. Their flight is very heavy and slow. I use to play with them, rearing the larvae, when I was a lithe child in my grandparents farm. The life cycle has just been nicely described by Estrada and Solervicens (1997).
