ENGLISH:
Astylus trifasciatus : This species is the commonest beetle
in Santiago city. Chiledren collect them and call them
"Pololo de las Flores". There is a species from the Central
South region. They are
attracted to many kinds of flowers and become yellow with
pollen from them. Their flight is very heavy and slow. I use
to play with them, rearing the larvae, when I was a lithe
child in my grandparents farm. The life cycle has just been
nicely described by Estrada and Solervicens
(1997). ESPAÑOL:
El llamado pololo de las flores es la especie mas comun de
coleoptero en el centro de Chile. Son de vuelo ruidoso y
pesado, y se posan en flores, hasta quedar casi cubiertos de
polen. Cuando era niño jugaba con ellos, criando las
larvas que de desarrollan en tierra. Su ciclo biologico ha
sido descrito recientemente por Estrada y Solervicens
(1997)
