ENGLISH:
Trichophtalma sp: This is one several species of
Nemestrinidae. They are very common during spring and
summertime in the Central and Southern areas of the country.
There are many pretty species in Chile. One of the most
striking features of this family is the ability to stop in
the air, as for looking where else to go. ESPAÑOL:
Trichophtalma sp: Hay muchas especies de Nemestrinidae en
Chile. Esta es una de las mas bellas. Las especies recorren
el pais de Norte a Sur, y esta en particular vive desde la
zona central hasta Valdivia. Su gran trompa les permite
obtener polen de flores con un cuello profundo. Lo mas
simpatico que poseen es una capacidad de parar en el aire,
posados por algunos momentos, volando en forma estatica,
antes de desplazarse. Son bastante ruidosas. Se sabe que
algunas especies Norteamericanas son parásitas de
Orthoptera.
